Thor, the thunder god of Norse mythology, makes an attemt to catch the Midgardserpent, a Giant sea serpent so long that it encircles the entire world, Midgard. But he fails, when the giant, Hymer, cuts the rope that holds it, and the serpent escapes. This illustration appeared in a childrens book about norse mythology, published in Denmark by Gyldendal.
