In the North Island of New Zealand Aotearoa, there is only one mountain referred to as ‘The Mountain’, and that is Ruapehu.

I know there will be people in Taranaki who will take issue with this, because Mt Taranaki is their ‘Mountain’. But when it comes to skiing (especially), tramping and climbing, the North Island looks generally to Ruapehu, It has 3 ski fields at Whakapapa, Turoa and Tukino – and excellent facilities for visitors at Chateau Tongariro, National Park, and Ohakune
