Description:

This Green Heron was found at Big Pine Key in the Florida Keys at Blue Hole. Blue Hole is the only freshwater lake in the Keys (there are a couple of freshwater ponds in Key West). The lake is on the site of an old rock quarry and gets its water from rain and seawater seeping through and filtered by limestone.
